This episode is based off of events in chapters 27 and 28 of the manga.
The beginning of the episode showing Sayoko drinking is new to the anime. While there is an instance in the manga where Sayoko is shown getting smashed, it's not until way later and part of a separate story.
Originally in the manga, when Sayoko woke up she didn't throw such a fit. She calmed herself down to think through what she did the day before, and realized she had bought a CD at the store (not the Demons CD). When she mentioned "CD", Marller woke up and got really mad due to the traumatizing events of the day before concerning CDs.
Still, I have to admit that Sayoko's reaction is mega-funny in the anime. Marller revealing herself to be a woman so soon was a disappointment, though.
The conversation following that scene at Tariki Hongan is pretty much the same (save the bike reference; it was changed since Keiichi was originally turned into a lizard, then a frog). However, at the end, Urd takes the CD for safekeeping. Originally, Belldandy sealed up the Gods CD and the Demons CD together in a box, keeping it in the kitchen.
The anime mixes up the sequence of events a little here. Right now the walk Keiichi and Belldandy take together is a reference to chapter 28, but has been changed drastically. In fact, the only major reference from chapter 28 is the balance scale, which was molded into the anime's own purpose.
Continuing on with chapter 27, when Sayoko visits, it was originally with all three (Belldandy, Keiichi, and Urd) rather than just Urd. As a result, everything concerning Urd and Sayoko is original material, but I have to admit I really enjoyed hearing Urd call Sayoko "weak" and Sayoko calling Urd a "slut".
In the manga, I don't recall Urd's weakness to Enka ever being revealed to Sayoko, or her utilizing that against Urd. Also, Sayoko never succeeds in attaining the CDs for Marller. Even when Marller steals the CD case when Belldandy undoes the seal (to free Sayoko from it's grasp), Urd had the Gods CD somewhere else. In short, the manga chapter 27 ended with the Demons CD eaten by some sort of monster Urd cooked up, and we never heard of the CDs ever again.
The next event plunges us into chapter 28, the balance sphere. Originally, it was Sayoko who mentioned Keiichi being a means to the end of getting rid of Belldandy, but here apparently Marller is baiting Sayoko (and possibly we'll see Sayoko develop feelings sooner than in the manga).
Belldandy mentioning the time she and Keiichi have to spend together is new to the anime. Originally, during the walk, she mentions that when you seize the rare chance to neglect your homework, you may as well enjoy it as much as you can (because the original context of Belldandy and Keiichi going out is Keiichi not doing his homework).
At this point, the anime separates completely from the manga. Originally at the walk, Marller causes Belldandy to drain her powers, so Keiichi has to take Belldandy home to get Urd to help Belldandy. Keiichi then goes out for a walk, feeling like he's taken advantage of Belldandy's powers. That's when Sayoko meets him and the Balance Sphere takes charge.
Meanwhile, in the house, Urd cooks up Belldandy's recharge potion, but Marller surprises Urd and makes her listen to Enka, causing her to fall asleep. Urd leaves a miniature version of herself out, using that stop Marller by making her listen to Rock music, and breaking the Balance Sphere for Keiichi and Belldandy's sake.
The dance scene is new, but a great addition in my opinion. I like how it's hard to read Belldandy's emotions for a while. I personally wondered if she suspected something was going on, or was actually being fooled by the spell Marller cast.
I just like seeing anime Belldandy actually lose at something. In the manga, Belldandy always won, no matter what.
What really pleasantly surprises me about this episode was that when Belldandy was told to go home and rest, she literally was going to go back home... Heaven, that is. Those who've read the Queen Sayoko arc know that what Belldandy considers "home" drastically changed by that story, and I'm wondering if Mr. Gohda will utilize that in future stories.
The date between Keiichi and Sayoko never existed in the manga (well, there was a date-like sequence later, but that's a different story), and the way Keiichi broke free of Marller's spell has drastically chaged also. Originally in the manga, Urd had to break it for him. Here, I guess the power of love conquers all. Well, okay, Keiichi began to break it and Urd helped make Mara drop it, but...
Originally, there was no bug that stole the CDs.
The conversation between Belldandy and Keiichi at the end of the episode is a great addition, in my opinion. It shows that even at this stage, Keiichi loves Belldandy (although he never says it to her face). It's sooo romantic...
Waitaminute... my question is if she's on a boat, how did Keiichi get on the boat also? Unless the boat was docked, but it isn't shown to be... But in any case, I'm glad Keiichi didn't use the balance sphere as an excuse for his behavior. Also, the bit about the contract... that plays a major role in the manga, but I'm glad they got it out of the way for the anime.
