Virgil - Opinions
Some odd bits and ends.
Parallels
Occasionally you'll find that certain characters and situations parallel certain characters and events in other anime, manga, games, and such things. Virgil and Febronia's story is in no way, shape, or form completely original; it's the classic "tragedy", in the vein of Romeo and Juliet. However, in this small section, I'll touch upon other instances which remind of me Virgil, or vice-versa.
Lenne x Shuyin - Final Fantasy X-2
Its almost creepy how similar Virgil and Feb's relationship is to Shuyin and Lenne's. Both men watched the women they loved die right before their eyes and couldn't do anything about it, and when all was said and done, they had to wander around their worlds knowing that they couldn't protect the ones dearest to them. Both Feb and Lenne don't want this for them, and though they try to communicate their feelings to their loved ones from beyond the grave, they are unsuccessful until they come into contact with the main heroine (Shion and Yuna, respectively). In the end, both are able to talk to their lovers, and fade away together in peace.
Vincent x Lucrecia - Final Fantasy VII
In this instance, I think Virgil resembles more Lucrecia and Feb resembling Vincent, in an odd sort of way. Both Feb and Vincent have introverted, caring natures, and are unwilling to blame their lovers' misguided actions on them, but on themselves. Both Feb and Vincent have had to watch the work of their lovers do harm to the world; Lucrecia's husband, Hojo, took her child, Sephiroth, away to cultivate the world's most bishie villain ever, and Feb had to stand by and watch Virgil self-destruct and kill other Realians. In the end, both couples have a certain bond that they keep in order to try to help each other from beyond the grave, though they could never be physically together after their situations. However, it is that bond between them that ultimately enables them to smile in the end.
