Virgil - His Story

Early in the game, Virgil in introduced as a soldier who has an intense hatred for Realians, and one who is harboring a D.M.E. addiction. Caspase, the director of the realian maintenance bay, informs Shion that while Virgil may be like this now, when they were together at the military academy he wasn't so violent or crazed. He explains that Virgil was there fourteen years ago at Miltia.

Virgil is then soon killed off very quickly by the gun of KOS-MOS. However, with his death, softly comes out the name "Feb" from his lips...

He then reappears in near the end of Episode I dressed in a blue cloak, and fight the party with a boss fight with two different monsters.

Then you don't see him at all during Episode II.

No, seriously, you don't. Well, you see him at the end, but he doesn't do anything.

Finally, he appears in a major role in Episode III. Appearing in the opening of Episode III alongside the other three Testaments, Virgil comments on how Mary Magdalene smells good. And here I thought Albedo and Voyager were creepy. Anyway, we see Virgil a few more times with his mask on talking to the mysterious Roth Mantel, but the party does not face him until they arrive at Rennes-le-Chateau.

There, Virgil shocks Shion and the others by revealing his identity, and taunting the group endlessly as he did in Episode I. The group confronts him in his Ein Sof, Naphtali, and afterwards the White Testament arrives. Together they leave, after extracting the Vessel of Anima from the E.S. Naphtali and leaving the group confused.

It is in Miltia's past that Shion and the others discover Virgil's ties with Miltia, and exactly what it is that causes him to have such an intense hate for Realians, which contradicts Shion's views. Virgil was a Federation Soldier sent to Miltia during the Miltian Conflict, and had to be raised in the military academy to regard all Realians as enemies.

During a mission, he was injured to a near-death state. He was found by Febronia, and Febronia asked Kevin Winnicot to transplant her internal organs into Virgil's for his survival. He found this disgusting; the organ of his enemy was inside of him. However, as Febronia continued to take care of him, feelings sprouted between the two. Whether this was love or not is up for debate, but there was a connection.

The Third Descent began shortly after, and many Realians began attacking the old church. Febronia, Shion, and Virgil were all in it. Febronia sacrificed herself to stop the onslaught of combat Realians, and died right before Virgil and Shion's eyes. Virgil valiantly attempted to save Febronia and told Shion to go to Labyrinthos. However, it was too late.

After this event is revealed, the Blue Testament once again appears in front of the adult Shion and her party, and ceaselessly taunts her about her convictions regarding humans and Realians. However, before Shion's psyche was completely shattered, the spirit of Febronia appeared and had a few choice words to say to Virgil.

With one last heartfelt exchange, Febronia and Virgil disappeared together, to a place where the differences between human and Realian were nonexistent.
